There are many different brands, sizes and shapes of wine glasses. And you have glasses in crystal, glass or plastic. If you are going to buy new wine glasses, remember that there is a difference between red wine glasses and white wine glasses. One rule applies to both: never choose a glass without a stem! The handle ensures that your hand does not heat the glass (and therefore also the wine).
It is often thought that the main difference is the size of the glass, but nothing could be further from the truth. Just look at the typical “balloon” glass, which is mainly used in France and Italy, and which comes in all sizes.
Red wine glasses are different in shape than white wine glasses. They are rounder or more convex in shape, and have a wider calyx. As a result, the wine comes into better contact with oxygen, the wine can breathe better, and the taste comes out better. The large convex shape also allows you to roll or swirl the wine in the glass, releasing the aromas better.
White wine glasses have a narrower opening and narrower chalice. As a result, the aromas are better preserved and your wine also stays at a better temperature (read: cooler). The shape of white glasses is usually slightly higher. You don't need a convex shape because rolling is not necessary with white wine.
Rosé wines are usually also drunk cool like white wine and are less complex than red wine. It is usually recommended to use white wine glasses for this.

This makes the glass clearer. The clarity and brilliance of crystal increases as more lead is added.
